Tecopa / Old Tecopa (0109)

A collection of foundations and rubble in the area of the original Tecopa, which is about 8 miles from the current town of Tecopa. Based on the location of these foundations and the type of construction, I'm guessing that these are the remains of administrative buildings associated with the mines. Per my readings, these abandoned tanks and machines would be from the 1920's, though the graffitti is clearly more recent since '420' is a fairly modern reference for marijuana -- though the '4' also looks like a modified swastika. (See descriptions in adjacent pictures.)

An abandoned mill area near Old Tecopa. I've been photographing this mill for years and had been surprised at how it had stayed at the same level of deterioration for years. Apparently something happened within the past year to make what remained of the roof fall in.

Though gorgeous at sunset, this is actually a hazardous area. Surround by the remnants of early 20th century mining, the land is toxic with mercury and other chemicals used in mining.
