Very much a 'classic' train station

Just north of old town is Union Station, which was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon.

A good view of how much condo construction was occurring in the area. In the area adjacent to the station there were very many multi-story condo or apartment buildings under construction in April 2008

Due to growth in commuter rail traffic, Metrolink has opened 2 new platforms on the east side of the station.

Amtrak Cascade color scheme diesel on Pacific Surfliner at Union Station in LA. Unfortunately I came across it just as it was leaving, so could not get any more detail. A few days later I was on a Surfliner of the same configuration and it was evident that both the engine and the cars were pretty beat up.

Morning commute -- Metrolink commuter train, UP diesel, and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner with Amtrak Cascade diesel.
