Globe, AZ school (1923)

The Hill Street School in Globe. It's a striking piece of architecture but I found conflicting information on websites and thus can't be sure as to when it was built. From one side it looks completely abandoned, on another side you can see that new windows have been installed at the top.

The brick building in the distance appears to have been the train depot when there was passenger service in the area.

Interesting piece of history that's a little too relevant for contemporary times -- climate change resulted in food shortages and warfare.

In Besh Ba Gowah park. The cacti and other floral on the park are cultivated to reflect what would have been there when it was originally occupied.

Entrance to Besh Ba Gowah archaeological park in Globe, AZ. The park is interesting for a number of reasons. One being that it is surrounded by residential development, which is unusual for Native American sites. Another is that the original efforts to preserve the site were part of the New Deal and yet there is no reference in the park to its New Deal heritage. Its also a very attractive small park, that seems to be largely unknown -- I knew about it because of having checked a New Deal website regarding New Deal locations in Arizona.

A park area next to Besh Ba Gowah park in Globe (see adjacent photo). There were New Deal activities at Besh Ba Gowah and these walls look very similar to the sorts of walls/landscaping of the New Deal, but I couldn't find any indication of when these were built or by whom.

Globe AZ AZER (1968)

Taken from outside a maintenance facility of the Arizona Eastern Railway. The AZER connects mining and agriculture in the area to the main Union Pacific line that runs along I-10.

Unfortunately my timing wasn't right to see a train, but the AZER (railroad) runs right down the middle of the street along these tracks for several blocks in Globe. Since the railroad services the mines, it would have been interesting to see an ore train coming through.
