Amsterdam was a favorite haunt for many American servicemen stationed in Germany, apparently because prostitution was legal there. I made a number of trips up there with friends, but usually ended up exploring the city on my own (I hadn't realized I was gay yet, but somehow spending a weekend hanging out just in the red light zone just didn't intrigue me.). The most fascinating aspect of wandering around Amsterdam was, of course, the canals. This is Centraal Station Pictures in this set (Military Years) are from when I was in the military, from 1967-1970. All photos were originally slides, a friend spent very many hours restoring those slides to being viewable. Best viewed as part of the Military Years set.

An easy trip from Darmstadt (where I was stationed) was to Amsterdam -- particularly since there were always men who wanted to go there because of the sex trade. This is from a winter trip when there was ice on the canals. Photo is from a slide taken during my military service when I was stationed in Germany (1968 to 1969); restoration of the slides was by a friend.
