So, the lump on the noggin. A fall in the street when I stumbled over the uneven footpath. Yes, ouch, and it was a massive golf-ball sized mound. For our menu, we chose to go with the local specialities. Yes, they were fancied up to suit the splendour of the winery restaurant, but I want to, as much as possible, savour the flavours of the region.

Home made "manty", a Kazakh equivalent to momos. I am not sure why I am looking so shifty...

So, Bomba filled up for August with all sorts of Randoms. This household was a combination of some with holiday homes here, and some extended family. Smelling a barbecue on, I peered over our terrace to sticky-beak. I was spotted, conversed with, and minutes later, we were invited in for a drink. Which became a few, some bruschetta, a glass or three of wine, spaghetti ragout, and grappa to chase it all down. We brought some home made chocolate icecream. A memorable dinner indeed... although I do struggle to remember the exact manner in which it wrapped up!

Fried fish - sounds like it will be the most boring of the items for dinner. Nah-ah. It was incredibly done, magnificently flavoured, and probably felt the most decadent because of the addition of gold.

The hot appetizer for my 50th. There were 7 courses, some which had 3 or 4 different items. All in all, I think we had about 15 or so items to dine on. A bottle of red, and a couple of glasses of not-at-all-bad Japanese sparkling wine.

Maxim's was closed on Monday. So, we had our special dinner there the following night. A decadent splurge for an amazing wife. Congratulations on your milestone year.

Khalil owns the Queen Ayola Hotel in Madaba, where we stayed. He invited to his home, and he cooked a Jordanian dish, roughly translated as “Upside Down”. This is a great example of the Jordanian hospitality that we encountered continually.
