Saturday 18 June 2016 (1150) – Hunter Bros of Tantobie near Stanley, County Durham was founded in 1918 when the three brothers returned from World War 1 military service. It became one of the oldest family run bus and coach businesses in Britain but closed during August 2016 due to the ill health of the current family member. Its sole bus service ran from Stanley to Flint Hill and qualified as being one of the oldest commercially run bus services run by an original operator. It ran every 30 minutes using the one bus on a journey of 12 minutes each way. Another local operator, Stanley Travel, took over the running of the service. KU52 RXF, an Alexander built Plaxton Pointer style bodied Dennis Dart which had been new to Thames Travel, Wallingford in January 2003, was seen entering Stanley bus station from Flint Hill.

Wednesday 6 January 2016 (0807) - A road closure in Station Road, Barton Mills resulted in a diversion for Mulleys Motorways BIG 6885 working the 0735 service 955 from West Row and Mildenhall to Bury St. Edmunds. The bus had to travel via Fiveways, Newmarket Road and Church Lane in order to serve the stop at St. Mary's Church, Barton Mills. It was seen here as it turned out of Church Lane into The Street where it resumed its normal route. The tri-axle Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian was new in May 1990 to Hong Kong Citybus (Fleet number 122 later 341, registration number EL 7976). When imported to the UK it was given registration number G374 FWC and was operated by ‘On a Mission’ of Soulbury, Buckinghamshire

Tuesday 13 May 2014 (1337) – The ‘born again’ Crosville Motor Services is based at Weston-super-Mare, Somerset – quite away from where the original CMS company operated. Open top 500 (CRZ 9319) was working service 100 to Sand Bay. An Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian which I think was new as Lothian Region Transport (Edinburgh, Scotland) number 357 (F357 WSC) in July 1989.

Thursday 12 March 2009 (0717 hrs) – Normally the 0740 hrs Suffolk County Council supported service 956 from Worlington to Bury St Edmunds is worked by a 70 seat single decker coach (YN05 HBO). The Alexander bodied Leyland Olympian was new in February 1989 to Chambers of Bures. Seen here at Flempton en route to Worlington.

Subsequently imported to the UK by Stagecoach as their 13639 and used in Manchester. During the past months this vehicle has had opening windows fitted and also new roofline panels following an encounter with some overhanging tree branches. The unavailability of the usual 955 service bus today (BIG 6885) resulted in this bus covering the runs. Mulleys AY55 DGE in background.
