Friday 18 November 1983 – Bickers of Coddenham VPT 673L loading in Ipswich bus station (St. Stephen’s Lane). It was a Plaxton bodied AEC Reliance that had been new to Gillett Brothers of Quarrington Hill, County Durham in August 1972. When Gillett sold their business to United Automobile Services this bus entered the United fleet.

The timetable for United Automobile Services service 26 between Darlington and Hawes for the Winter period 13 September 1970 to 19 June 1971.

Extract from the 'Roadway Motor Coach Timetable' 1932 - Page 118 is the second of seven pages of timetables under the heading of the North Western Road Car Company which contains the southbound timetable for the 'Tyne-Tees-Mersey' 'Limited Stop' Pool services at the time worked jointly with Lancashire United Transport, Northern General Transport, West Yorkshire Road Car Company and Yorkshire Woollen District. The timetable also includes the Hull service which was jointly operated with East Yorkshire Motor Services. United Automobile Services joined the pool later.

The 'Ten Cities Express' operated between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Coventry licenced to a number of big company operators most of which became part of the National Bus Company. The service had its origins with the Fawdon Bus Company which started the service in 1928. In 1933 Fawdon was acquired by the West Yorkshire Road Car Company on behalf of the ‘Limited Stop’ and ‘Yorkshire Services’ pools and following the acquisition revenue north of Leeds was shared by Northern General Transport, North Western Road Car, West Yorkshire Road Car and Yorkshire Woollen District. South of Leeds it was shared by East Yorkshire Motor Services, West Yorkshire Road Car Company, Yorkshire Traction Company and Yorkshire Woollen District. Due to there being so many different companies involved, the road service licence for the service was held in the name of the Fawdon Omnibus Company registered at the offices of Northern General in Bensham. Since no vehicles were owned by Fawdon a hiring permit was granted by the Traffic Commissioners with Northern General Transport, West Yorkshire Road Car and Yorkshire Woollen District being the prominent operators. The Fawdon Company was wound up in 1962 and the different pool members then held separate licences (which then included East Midland Motor Services, Lancashire United Transport and United Automobile Services). It was at this time the service became marketed as the ‘Ten Cities Express’. The feeder services shown in this timetable to/from Halifax and Huddersfield were actually timings covered by the Blackpool-Barnsley service J7 (later 217) of the 'Yorkshire-Blackpool' pool operators.

Monday 17 July 1972 - A United Automobile Services Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol RE (from the UHN-G batch) seen pulling out of Wellington Street Coach Station, Leeds working the 1155 hrs service X99 to Middlesbrough. Note the 'double lollipop' sign which was a prominent feature of this coach station operated by the West Yorkshire Road Car Company. service X99 forms part of the 'Tyne-Tees-Mersey' Limited Stop pool.

United Automobile Services timetables - Service 111 (Scarborough-Cayton-Filey-Bridlington) and 112 (Scarborough-Staxton-Filey). My Great Aunts lived at Cayton Village but rarely used the United bus. They were staunch supporters of the competing East Yorkshire service 10/10A.

Saturday 11 May 1996 (approx 0855) - This secondhand acquisition by Bus Éireann is particularly interesting. It is the solitary GAC/CIÉ bus built in 1980 for United Automobile Services in England (Fleet number 1501 (C529 XEF))

Friday 9 November 2012 (0909) - The former United Automobile Services garage in Vernon Road, Scarborough later passed to the ownership of East Yorkshire Motor Services/Scarborough and District when the National Bus Company reorganised the United/EYMS operating areas. The garage was unusual in its construction in that it was built on a hill. There was a lower floor garage area which could only accommodate single deckers which was accessed down the hill (visible on the right of the photograph). This view shows what was the (only) entrance/exit door to the main floor through which both double and single deck vehicles could pass. The maintenance area and washing facilities were located on this level. By the early 1990s the building had become a car park run by the Palm Court Hotel. In addition to the parking area on the main floor a mezzanine parking level was added to almost double the parking capacity. The floor of that second level stands behind the beam with the word ‘Parking’.
