Savda AO 186671 in Geneva - 24 Aug 1990

Friday 24 August 1990 – SAVDA is the principal operator in the Aosta Valley in Northern Italy. Orlandi Poker bodied Iveco 180 (AO 186671) is seen resting by Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) in Geneva, Switzerland. Later in the day it would be returning via the Mont Blanc Tunnel to its home base on the regular scheduled service worked the company. I rather thought the closed sunblinds made it look like the coach was dozing in the afternoon sunshine.

Wednesday 29 August 1990 – Three Orlandi bodied coaches parked in the bus and coach station at Courmayeur on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Despite wearing the same colour scheme they were operated by three different companies. Left is SAVDA 103 badged FIAT; centre is an APT badged Iveco; and right is a SADEM badged Iveco. The latter, with an Orlandi Poker body, carries window boards referring to ‘Torino-Aosta-Courmayeur’. It could have worked either the 0630 slow or 0730 fast service run from Turin due to arrive Courmayeur at 1040 and 1030 respectively.

Wednesday 29 August 1990 – A view from the top of the St. Bernhard Pass with an Orlandi Poker bodied coach of SAVDA heading back to Aosta on the 1615 departure from the top of the pass. This was one of three daily summertime only journeys operated up the pass two of which continue to Orsieres in Switzerland jointly operated with a Swiss based company. These services were supplemented by two all the year round journeys running via the St. Bernard tunnel. The road over the pass is closed for most of the year and had a terrible surface caused by the winter ice and frost.
