Wykeham Forest

This part of Wykeham Forest has this year been subject to the clear felling of Larch and other crop trees. The track shown in the left hand picture used to be an easy descent into Troutsdale (just visible in the fog). As can be seen, it is now littered with the debris of the felling operations, making it quite tricky to use. The surviving trees shown in the centre and right hand pictures are I believe, Scots Pine.

HFF 31st December 2021 The gate gives access to the field and the public right of way that crosses it.

Wykeham Forest - North Yorkshire

Fog filling the Vale of Pickering, with the hills of the Yorkshire Wolds barely visible on the horizon.

The view is over the villages of East and West Ayton (hidden by the trees). The fog fills the Vale of Pickering and the barely visible hills of the Yorkshire Wolds beyond.

East Harbour - Scarborough The maximum high tide recorded in the tide tables for Scarborough is of 6.3 m and a minimum height of 0.1 m.

Best enlarged Scarborough lighthouse stands a the end of The Vincent Pier, completed in 1752. The lighthouse, first constructed 1801-06, was seriously damaged during the bombardment of Scarborough by German cruisers on December 16th 1914. The lighthouse tower had to be dismantled and was rebuilt in 1931. Some 500 shells were fired on the town and eighteen people killed.
