Banded Demoiselle Damselfly - Female
| 18 Jun 2009 |
|
Shortly after Martin had to go, this lovely lady landed near the bridge. I'm not sure but due to the light color in the eyes I'm assuming this one is fairly newly emerged.
She was in the Banded Demoiselle territory, so have to also assume that.
Its virtually impossible for anyone to distinguish between the female Beautiful Demoiselle without painful examinantions..

This gives you an idea just how small these young lizards are, view large to find him on the mound.
Common Lizard Baby 4
| 24 Jun 2009 |
|
Sunday we walked with Annette at Filsham and saw this family of lizards lounging on the Rabbit Mound.
The larger (mother) one was olive-sandy colored with about three of these tiny, lovely blue-green color ones with her.
These photos are from the following day, only this guy was around.
Which could have to do with the fact that some genious decided the end of spring, beginning of summer was a good time to clear all the paths for 3 feet either side with a lawnmower.

Tesco Carrier Bag On Young Gull
| 07 Jan 2011 |
|
While out at the sea shore to see what birds we could find this gull came by. He's gotten a Tesco Carrier bag caught on a leg. The other birds kept chasing him thinking he had something to eat, but he was just trying to find a place to land.
After a while he did finally land, unfortunately for him he landed way out in the deeper water, once he did this the weight of water in the bag he couldn't take off. He struggled out there for a while and I hope that the bag dragged him in shore.
We don't carry a cell phone and of course it was getting dark out, and he went so far out that we had no idea what to do for him except to hope!
I never litter, its a really big deal with me, of course he might have picked this up at the dump as well, as there are hundreds of birds (mostly gulls) feeding at the dump most days.
I will from now on cut up the carrier bags I throw away!

Temporarily stuck, he was fighting to free a leg and chirping for a parent to rescue him. After about 20 minutes he managed to get his leg unstuck.
