In the entrance area of a natural glacier cave at approx. 2,500 metres above sea level. This spot is safe because the ceiling is compact, with no ice sheets that could break off. But the bare ice floor is slippery as glass. It can only be walked on with crampons or ice cleats. In addition, before each step, you have to test whether there is a cavity underneath that you could fall into by tapping the ground. At these temperatures, water in your shoes inevitably leads to severe frostbite. Here inside, you are completely on your own. ~~~~~ Im Eingangsbereich einer natürlichen Gletscherhöhle auf ca. 2.500 Metern Seehöhe. An dieser Stelle ist es sicher, weil die Decke kompakt ist, ohne Eisplatten, die sich lösen könnten. Aber der blanke Eisboden ist spiegelglatt. Er ist nur mit Grödeln oder Steigeisen begehbar. Außerdem muss man vor jedem Schritt durch Klopfen testen, ob ein Hohlraum darunter ist, in den man einbrechen könnte. Bei diesen Temperaturen führt Wasser im Schuh unweigerlich zu schweren Erfrierungen. Hier drinnen ist man ganz auf sich allein gestellt. ~~~~~

While photographing the Apollon-Temple at lake Hundstalsee (2.287 m, Tyrol, Austria). The 660 meters of altitude difference from the parking lot at the alpine hut Inzinger Alp (1.363m) can actually be done in 2 hours. But in view of the unexpected masses of snow we were glad to get there at all. ~~~~~ Beim Fotografieren des Apollon-Tempels am Hundstalsee (2.287 m, Tirol, Österreich). Die 660 Höhenmeter vom Parkplatz bei der Inzinger Alm (1.363m) sind eigentlich in 2 Stunden zu schaffen. Angesichts der unerwarteten Schneemassen waren wir jedoch froh, überhaupt dort hin zu gelangen.

Mountaineers Rule #16: "Always be in contact to the cliff with 3 extremities." Since 30 years it isn't a dogma any longer for sportive climbers. But taking a picture, it is still a good advice. In addition a short quickdraw helps to keep the balance. ~~~~~ Bergsteigeregel #16: "Sei immer mit drei Gliedmaßen mit dem Fels in Kontakt." Zwar ist diese Regel beim Sportklettern seit 30 Jahren kein Dogma mehr. Aber beim Fotografieren hält man sich besser daran.
