The Avenger was manufactured under the Hillman marque by the Rootes Group from 1970 until 1976. Named to evoke memories of the Sunbeam Tiger, the Avenger Tiger concept began as a publicity exercise before the Tiger model itself was launched in 1972. Modifications included the 1500 GT engine with an improved cylinder head with enlarged valves, twin Weber carburettors and uprated suspension. A distinctive yellow colour scheme with a bonnet bulge, rear spoiler and side stripes was standard, set off with "Avenger Tiger" lettering on the rear quarters. Yet another Mini, this time from an earlier period back, but equally appealing!

I found this Eighties icon, finished in the classic Porsche colour of Guards Red, on the fringes of the showground. Just 75 Supersports were made for the UK. Each received the 930 Turbo's wide body (flared wheel arches), turbo rear spoiler (known lovingly as the whale tail), and 16" Fuchs alloys.

In 1971, a new Beetle model featuring MacPherson strut front suspension and a redesigned front end was launched alongside the "standard" Beetle, which continued in production. Officially known (and marketed in Europe) as the VW 1302 from 1971 to 1972, and VW 1303 from 1973 onwards, but commonly called Super Beetle. The one you see here (TYH 495M), was actually manufactured in 1973, thus making it a 1303, and was found parked up alongside a rather tidy Transporter (HAX 143C). This old bus was made in 1965, making it almost as old as me, but was only first registered here in 2008. Not sure which one the giant was pointing at!

The Hillman Imp was a compact, rear-engined saloon car, manufactured under the Hillman marque by the Rootes Group from 1963 through until 1976. The Standard Motor Company was founded in Coventry, England in 1903 with the Standard name last used in Britain in 1963, and in India in 1987. As best I can tell this is a Standard 10 or at least that's what the badge on the bonnet said. However, I've also seen them described as a Super Ten though I've been unable to find out what the difference, if any, actually is.

Spotted this on the Buick's rear bumper. Must admit it made me smile!

In trying to determine if this was a Roadmaster or a Super I read that the holes you see on the side of the bonnet are called VentiPorts. Apparently, the Roadmaster had four of these on each side whereas the Super only had three so without looking any further I was able to deduce it is indeed a Super. What's that old saying about you learn something new every day?

The Humber Super Snipe is a car which was produced from 1938 to 1967 by the British-based Humber car company, part of the Rootes Group. I've read reports that the Series IV featured a Snipe bird badge on the grille, which would suggest that this is a Series IV. However, the same report said that it was introduced in 1964 whereas this car was manufactured in 1963, which would make it a Series III ... any Humber buffs out there able to say for definite either way?

The Honda Super Cub, in its various versions such as the C100, C50, C70, C90, C100EX, and C70, has been in continuous manufacture since 1958. This one is from 1987 and what intrigued me most about it were the solid spoke wheels ... never seen these before.

The Hillman Super Minx was a motor car from the British Rootes Group. It was a slightly larger version of the Hillman Minx. This beauty from 1965 is a MkIII example.

These two blokes were quite happy to pose beside this Morris Marina Super, which dates from 1972. Note the modified pick-up version in the background. The purists might hate it, but it was heading for the scrap heap had the owner not been willing to invest in keeping it on the road.
