"We will be closed on Acsension [Ascension] Day, May 30, & Penicost [Pentecost] Monday, June 10." A sign sighted at an Old Order Amish business near Maytown, in western Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, May 27, 2019. A smaller handwritten sign that I saw at another Amish business on the same day simply said that they'd be closed for a religious holiday on May 30. Amish businesses in Lancaster County close on Ascension Day and Pentecost Monday , and the Amish spend the day visiting family and friends.

"Glick's Hikory & Apple Wood Smoked Meats. Home Made Cheese. Home Made Butter & Brooms. Bologna Sticks." A wonderfully unpretentious hand-painted sign for Glick's Meat and Cheese stand at Root's Country Market and Auction, located near Manheim , Pennsylvania.

This Halloween postcard actually started out as an authentic 1908 Thanksgiving postcard (see Thanksgiving Greetings below). I couldn't resist doctoring the Thanksgiving message, however, in order to transform it into a Halloween postcard with a modern sentiment.
