Between Hospet and Bijapur, the main road crosses the River Krishna. A few Km south of the river, a side road leads to the point at which another river joins the Krishna, At this union of the rivers (the 'sangam') there is a shrine, the Kudala Sangam, to some Hindu saint. Devotees (pilgrims) cross a bridge, high above the water, to reach a tower lined with staircases which lead down to the saint's tomb.
