Strokkur geyser erupts regularly every few minutes. It lies in Haukadalur geothermal area on the southern end of the Langjökull fissure swarm. The big Geysir lies dormant nearby. The area has been experiencing repeated quake swarms and is expected to become volcanically more active with potential eruptions in Langjökull in the coming years/ decades.

Cuernos del Paine seen across Lago Pehoe. The mountains in the National Park are of granite, heavily eroded by glaciers. The Cuernos are special in that they still have a shale layer on top.

8.15 p.m. just north of the arctic circle- that pink colour was real!

Bentsjordtinden seen from the coast at Tisnes, Kvaløya. At 2.30 p.m. the sun is already disappearing behind the mountains.

7.52 p.m.- a night of Aurora watching started promising with a low arc and some more green behind the clouds. The idea was to have the northern lights reflected in the water and ice - it was not to be.

Evening (7.55 p.m.) at Eyjarfjörður near Akureyri with Tröllaskagi peninsula to the west, Kaldbakur (1167m) on Flateyjarskagi peninsula to the east.

Jökulsárlón, fed by Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, is famous for its floatings icebergs. It is a popular film setting- for a James Bond movie the short river leading to the sea was blocked so the lake could freeze over.

Sailing towards Raftsund on a very cold clear winter's day. The moon shines over the island of Hinnøya (the light on the left is a salmon farm).

Crossing Breiðafjörður on ferry Baldur from Stykkisholmur to Brjánslækur- looking back to Flatey and Snæfellsnes.

River Víðidalsá flows through 40-50m deep Kolugljúfur canyon. Folklore has it that a female troll called Kola dug the gorge.
