Notes from Sotheby's Preview magazine, dated November/December 1986: "Pierre Bonnard: Le Déjeuner de Chats , signed, painted c. 1906, oil on canvas, 60 by 73 cm., £300,000 - 400,000 ($450,000 - 600.000) "On view from Friday 28th November (except Saturday); catalogue £12. " The next major sale of Impressionist and Modern Art in London will be on 31st March and 1st April 1987 (closing date for consignments: mid-January. One last look at a few of the fun pictures in this volume. Sorry I couldn't post more, but the year's almost over and it's time to move on.

Let's skip past the pages about breakfast (Applesauce + toast = "Sandwich." Yay.) and about how canned pineapple makes your hot dog a Hawaiian vacation. It's lunchtime. L. I don't get why they're very specific sometimes regarding what to drink at lunch. But here, they just tell you to have a "beverage." Maybe they hoped for "Turn To Sandwiches II" and wanted to save some innovations for later...? R. Proletarian Pete's corner has both the most awkward pose and the best sandwich/snack names. Hey, Jimmy, maybe take just a little dab of Peanut Creme and use it to tame those cowlicks of yours. From the April issue of Ladies Home Journal .

(L.) Please tell me somebody based a quilt design on these sandwiches. (Including the banana-liverwurst combo.) Because that would rock. (R.) The foods-for-kiddies page also looks great, though I don't know what animal the salt and pepper shakers are meant to be. (Donkeys? A Chihuahua-Doberman mix?) Or why you'd need to salt and pepper a Banana "Junior Custard" in the first place. Some mysteries aren't meant to be solved, I guess.

On the left, you can see why they nicknamed this dish "Banana Slug Delight." [shudder]. Meanwhile, on the center right, the trippy Deco patterns keep everyone from noticing that their banana has been rolled in mayonnaise before being, er, studded with nuts.

...Still, somehow the banana-bacon combo got on through. To this day, nobody's sure how it happened.

Which came first: Bland or Salty? From Family Circle magazine.

I don't think the bacon is any help here. (Yes, there really are crushed cornflakes mixed into the omelet.) But the tomato sauce does boast chili powder (a whopping half-teaspoon serves 4!), Worcestershire sauce, and MSG! Woo!

Pass the whimsical molded fish, please! I skipped breakfast!

Corned Beef + Canned Cream of Mushroom Soup + Pickle Relish + Chopped Egg on Crappy "French" Bread (upper left) or Cut-out Beets + Cream Cheese on Crackers (lower right]) = True Love. Okey-doke. :/ From the February issue of Household magazine.

Frito Enchiladas! Frito Shrimp Loaf! Frito Nut Roast! Frito Mock Chops! Frito Stuffed Eggs! Fritos and Chili Casserole! Fritos Italian Style! Hominy a La Fritos! Fritoquiles! (Like the "Happy Landings," but, uh, tossed in the pot in a slightly different sequence.) Frito Cabbage! Peanut Fritos! There's even more. Liver is involved, and chili powder. But for the sake of all humanity, I won't go on.

Frito Salmon and Carrot Salad! Fritos also go great with asparagus, "mock chicken" (roast veal or pork) and watercress-cream cheese sandwiches! 9 out of 10 picnic-crashing bears agree that Mom's Fritos fixation is starting to become just a wee bit disturbing.

Baked Eggs with Fritos! Macaroni a la Fritos! Frito Happy Landings! (? Stewed tomatoes... with Fritos) Frito-Ketts! Fritos Au Gratin! Molded Chicken Salad! Turkey Souffle'! But no dish Mother serves is more beloved than her Grilled Split Baby Frito Krakens!

Finally, we have a detailed procedure for mashing a sandwich in a waffle iron, freezing it, and thawing it later. I bet that even Martha Stewart would raise an eyebrow at this much needless complication.

Not one, but two recipes with Marjoram ("or Sage") in them! I feel dizzy.

Either the Club Sandwich in this picture is made of styrofoam, or I need to get my optometrist on the phone, stat!
