Crash Tender --- Alvis Mk 6 "Salamander" {23 AG 76 is a military reg no.} This six-wheel drive vehicle was developed in the 1950s. It had an excellent record and performance - delivering crew & equipment to the scene of a crash in half the time of similar tenders then in service. 125 were built from 1956 and were gradually replaced in the 1970s by an updated range. . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvis_Salamander

Capstan (remains) pulley block and mooring bollard on the west pier, Whitehaven. The sets of railing protect sets of steps, some of which are rather worn and require greater care. To the left is the route of the pier railway, showing as the surface has been cut away into a channel for the track alignment.
