SoA[25] - cotoneaster in autumn plumage

Another cotoneaster showing off the autumn colours, must see if I can get an image of this in full sun.

SoA[25] - small beech

Small copper [?] Beech catching the sun, usually most of these will stay attached until the buds start to open next year.

SoA[25] - all fell down

The Acer's leaves all dropped off in the past 24 hours or so !

The bright red leaves of an Acer palmatum {or is it A. dissectum ?} stand out as autumn progresses.

SoA[23]/STR[23] - autumnal leaves

10 Nov 2023 64
The start of the "Nature Trail" / walk alongside the railway [which goes all the way to Haltwhistle, if you are feeling very keen. The other way is somewhat harder, as it is mostly uphill]. The trees are showing their autumn colours, especially the Beeches. The wind is knocking a lot of the leaves off.

SoA[23]/STR[23] - bright leaves, also fences [HFF]

22 Dec 2023 12 5 324
Beech trees giving a splash of colour in the background, and a multitude of fences in the foreground. . The shed is actually the STR workshop, the main running line is separated from the public walking route [The South Tyne Trail] by a strained wire fence, which is so thin that it doesn't stop you taking good images of the trains - when they are running ! and the substantial wooden fence on the left protects you from a drop into the river or onto the flood / erosion protective rock armour (as seen in other images).

SoA[23] - colourful trees

07 Jan 2024 9 4 225
Went out to one of the rural tea rooms that we visit quite often for a late lunch - usual good fare ! we even bought a second round of cakes as a "takeaway treat" ... Highly recommended [and dog-friendly, too] - White Monk Tearoom. Alternatively, The Lord Crewe Arms supply more alcoholic refreshments. Both are in Blanchland, Co.Durham. Spotted this tree showing off autumn shades on the stroll back to the car park. Construction of the right hand wall / gate post is a little different !

Shaft of afternoon sunlight picking out the bronzed autumn leaves.

SoA[16] - beech ... [SC168]

07 Jan 2017 4 5 356
A mix of copper and green beech trees developing their autumn colours, with a rather overgrown butterfly bush in the foreground. Sunday Challenge ... [12/10/25] ... SC168 ... Change Of Seasons This is an old image, but shows the changing colour of the beech leaves very well. It's still a bit too soon to see this change in 2025, and recent poor weather - ie gales - has pulled off some leaves of other trees already. My second choice would have been snowdrops peeking through snow ...

SoA[16]/gdn[16] - acer spray

07 Jan 2017 1 316
Spray of Acer dissectum, with added autumn colour. These leaves in this spray are the last few still on the tree, and as most leaves are already on the ground, their bright autumnal colour stands out.

Autumn colours in the Porthmadog area, caught in splash of light from the setting sun.
