At lunchtime [effective 13:00 GMT] the Met Office extended the Amber warning for wind area to include the Scottish Highlands & Islands, including Orkney & the Shetlands, and active until 06:00 on Saturday, 25th Jan 2025. not my image ; fair use & public information

European modelling for Friday morning at 06:00GMT 24th Jan 2025 peak wind gust predictions, overlaying the isobars. Located just to the west of Northern Ireland, the eye pressure models at 939mbar. RED warnings for very strong winds covering Northern Ireland & part of Scotland [The Isle of Man & Eire also issued RED wind warnings] - meaning: danger to life. After another day, ie on 23rdJan, the Met Office raised the level again, up to a Red warning. The most severe - meaning danger to life - covering Northern Ireland and most of central Scotland, with predicted wind gusts of 100mph. . not my image : fair use & public information

Less than a day later, on 22nd January 2025, the Met Office upgraded to "Amber warnings" for wind, and added in Yellow rain warnings for Friday, 24th January 2025 in some areas of the UK.

Storm Eowyn named on 21stJan 2025, as the fifth storm named by the "Western" group ... E2A --- Eowyn rapidly developed up to the stage of issuing of widespread RED warnings.
