Met Office warnings for Storm Amy on Friday, 3rd October 2025. Widespread wind & rain warnings for the northern half of the UK; these escalated to Amber wind warnings for part of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland / Highlands and Islands. not my image : fair use & public information

Met Office warnings for Storm Amy on Saturday, 4th October 2025. The areas covered by Yellow warnings extended to the South Coast of England, and that for rain increased to cover north of a line between Pembrokeshire [SW Wales] to Yorkshire [English East coast]. BBC adaptation of the amber warnings issued by the UK's Met Office for Storm Amy - specifically on Friday, 3rd and Saturday 4th October 2025. These areas also had Yellow warnings for rain. I live in North Eastern England, and although not shown on this graphic, the area was under Yellow wind and rain warnings for the majority of the duration of Storm Amy. Met Office warnings for Storm Amy on Sunday, 5th October 2025. By Sunday, Storm Amy had travelled across the UK, and only the far North East of Scotland and the Orkneys & Shetland Islands were still experiencing strong winds etc. I had some branches to tidy up, but little damage overall, thankfully. The warnings were timely enough for me to secure the garden furniture and some vulnerable plant pots. not my image: fair use & public information

Isobar chart with Storm Amy {1/4th October 2025} more or less centred over Scotland. The storm actually has two sets of fronts associated with it, the front forming the inner set is actually occluded ie the cold front has fully undercut and lifted the warm air segment - this usually produces very heavy rainfall. For the outer fronts the process is, maybe, half complete. The same situation applies to the much small low pressure system's fronts, located between Iceland and Norway. . not my image ; fair use & public information

Wind speed predictions for Friday, 3rd October 2025 at 23:00 The more blue the stronger the wind, at least, that's how I'm looking at this. I *think* the very centre of the storm is somewhere to the west of Lerwick. . not my image ; fair use & public information

NW Scotland is now under an Amber warning for strong winds and powerful gusts, which could cause damage [trees blown down, at the very least] over Friday night and in to the weekend. Personally, I would not be travelling unless highly essential. . not my image ; fair use & public information

As Storm Amy approaches the western parts of the UK, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, to accompany the windy weather predicted for Storm Amy over the weekend. This rain could result in some flooding. not my image ; fair use & public information

The area of low pressure that will develop into Storm "Amy" also incorporated the remnants of Hurricane Humberto. [on the Wednesday / Thursday - Amy arrived on 1st October 2025], the UK's Met Office was already predicting Yellow "wind" warnings. . not my image : fair use & public information

Outlook for weather during Autumn 2025. Currently, the position of the Jet Stream is funnelling low pressure systems from the North Atlantic across the UK from west to east, and onwards into Europe. Depending on how deep the depressions are, and how steep the pressure gradients are {how close the isobars are to each other} will both affect how stormily or how calmly the weather systems behave. [The UK's first named storm of the season "Amy" arrived 1st October 2025]
