vpr[25] - Class 108 DMU / grounded body

03 Jul 2025 65
A view into the yard at Rowlsey South, as we returned from Matlock. Several items of interest {& they need a lot more covered accommodation !} Heritage Shunters Trust shed [I presume the newer building to the right is PWE's training / workshop] Class 108 DMU [DMBS 51950 & DMCL 52062] both built 1960 at Derby, although in GWR Chocolate & Cream livery. In front of the DMU is the grounded body of MR 3451 6-wheel 4 Cmpt Luggage Composite. Built 1885 with the Clayton arc roof design. Arrived May 2025 from a business in Long Eaton.

vpr[25] - crane

03 Jul 2025 62
Breakdown crane 81139, appears to be still rigged. This is a Thomas Smith & Sons (Rodley) diesel breakdown crane, specifically a Smith Rodley Fixed 6wDM ZOP Travelling Bogie Crane, with works number 23613, built 1957. It seems to have been paired with a flat "runner" as a match waggon.

Although smart internally, this really needs an urgent tidy-up & repaint BR 26025 Mk 1 Corridor Second, Built 1962 in Derby

vpr[25] - signal post

03 Jul 2025 92
The down starter at Darley Dale, with an unusual lattice post. [It's not leaning, that's my fault - picked the poor camera angle when trying to take the picture].

vpr[25] - No Trespassing [HFF]

03 Jul 2025 4 8 155
A very specifically worded "No Trespassing" on the Midland Railway, dating from 1893. £10 was a lot of money back then ! Typical MR fencing - a very distinctive slope ...

vpr[25] - unidentified

03 Jul 2025 82
This is something that I don't recognise ... Looks far too modern to be a member from any class of British Rail shunter. The sunlight has washed out the brightness from purple in the livery.

vpr[25] - Shunters

03 Jul 2025 60
Suspect that these "shunters" belong to the Heritage Shunters Trust [based at Peak Rail], or members thereof. I lost count around 15 ! A lot were in need of further TLC.

vpr[25] - compartment fittings {2 of 2}

03 Jul 2025 86
The internal fittings in our compartment included mirrors, nice lamps and hat racks, with white netting and simply designed , but functional aluminium brackets.

vpr[25] - Matlock Riverside

The ex-Luffenham box, mounted on a blockwork base and internal stairway [for much needed security / anti-vandalism reasons] contains a 19-lever frame, recovered from Glendon North Junction, near Kettering. The train from Matlock uses the loop here to have the engine run around, before continuing the return to Rowsley South.

vpr[25] - Matlock station

Looking at Platform 1 - the East Midlands Railway terminus. from the Peak Rail train now standing in Platform 2.

vpr[25] - "Up" at Darley Dale

03 Jul 2025 65
The view along the Up platform at Darley Dale ... with a bit of "set dressing" to indicate that it is a semi-rural station. Much less substantial station buildings on this side.

vpr[25] - "Down" at Darley Dale

03 Jul 2025 1 87
The substantial station building on the down platform at Darley Dale. I was interested to note the size of the chimney at this end of the building, it would mean a good draft in the fireplace.

One of the benches on the "down" platform at Darley Dale [Peak Rail] with a typical Midland Railway sloped fence.
