Note the curvature in the position of the seat slats. If I had built these, I might have put an extra slat on the leading edge for greater comfort. However, that thin cushion made a lot of difference.

Hunslet Engine Company, Leeds - Works No. 1859 ; built 1937. Now known as "Green Dragon" [my late father worked there at that time, so there is more than a decent chance that he helped to build this locomotive].

Green Dragon ready to breathe fire & steam on the return journey up to Alston. In all fairness, it is quite a climb.
