IBB[25] - Glenridding Pier

Three of the five Ullswater Steamers are berthed here today ...
MV Lady Wakefield [the nearer] behind her is MY Raven and MV Dorothy is tucked into the inner berth and out of sight in this view.
The other two - MY "Lady of the Lake" is probably at Pooley Bridge on her last cruise of the day, and the MV "Western Belle" is on the slipway for her winter overhaul.
IBB[25] - Bella on the foredeck

For a while we stayed on the Raven's foredeck - it gave Bella the chance to look around and see Ullswater.
Her tail's hanging down - not tucked up against her tum - so she seems more relaxed. Ears are up as we are discussing adjourning to the saloon for coffee & biscuits. [Coffee is one of the words we think she recognises].

Bella, with her head over the side, wake-watching.
She has overcome much of her nervousness, and is now intent on what she can see ...
IBB[25] - Lady in waiting

My thoughts as to the situation here ...
MY "Lady of the lake" to MY "Raven" ---
Hurry up, my dear, and get orf that berth - I've been waiting ages already.
Raven has just downloaded and picked up quite a few passengers from Howtown Pier - and waited for a late arrival who was having difficulty walking, I think.
IBB[25] - MV "Western Belle"

The only one not afloat today - MV "Western Belle" is still on the slipway [perhaps still under her winter overhaul" ...
She was built in 1935, and came to Ullswater in 2010 after spending 2009 under restoration at the Mersey Heritage Shipyard. After a trip up the M6 and final fitting out on the company slipway she entered service later that year.
She is 75ft by 15ft6" with a draft of 5ft9" and can carry up to 160 passengers at a cruising speed of 10knts.

Looking over MY Raven's bow as she backs away from the pier at Pooley Bridge.
The seats here are remarkably comfortable and give good views ...
The winter storms over the past decade or so have not been kind to the pier, nor the booking office.
I gather that there will be some work done this year.

A "Certificate of Thanks" from the RNLI to Ullswater Steamers for assistance with fund-raising, displayed in the main cabin - aka the bar / shop / inside seating ...
As a supporter & fundraiser myself; I'll add my appreciation for their efforts, Well Done !

The other "steamer" plying around Ullswater today is the MY "Lady of the Lake" - built in 1877. Seeen here leaving Howtown Pier on her way to Glenridding.
We'll see her a couple of times during our circular cruise !

First image taken of Bella on MV Raven {about 8 minutes after leaving Glenridding Pier} and just after a first walk around the deck.
She is still a bit nervous - but also very curious - about what's going on ...

IBB[25] - MV "Lady Dorothy" [HFF]

MV "Lady Dorothy" is the smallest, and youngest, of the Ullswater Steamers' fleet - and has a 63 passenger capacity.
Originally a passenger ferry from the Channel Islands, she came by road from Poole in 2001, in the midst of the tragic Foot & Mouth Disaster. Her entry into service allowed an extended winter schedule for the first time - she's a good seaboat when winter weather makes for less than ideal conditions.
[built 1967, 50ft x 12ft & draws 4ft, cruising speed of 8 knots]

Spotted this lonely crocus in one of the grassed areas of the car park at Glenridding.
A very welcome sight !
{I usually fail with crocus corms, as certain little animals eat them, when I try to naturalise them in open ground in my garden}
