Whitby's war memorial, dates from 2013, erected after two local men fell in Afghanistan. I suspect people {visitors} will be found sitting on the plinth, there really isn't enough seats.

This is Newcastle's Boer War memorial - also known as the South African Wars memorial - in the Haymarket. It dates from 1907 and is grade II* listed [the Metro station is just to the left of this view] historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1024847?section=official-list-entry

Originally erected in 1924 - and built of Manx granite - to commemorate the fallen of The Great War [1914 - 1918]. The base of the monument was modified to include panels for WW2 casualties at a later date. For some reason the Festiniog Railway Company didn't have an official War memorial, not even an "Honour Roll" of those who served in WW1, or if they did, it had not survived into the modern era. . In November 2018, this was rectified with this War Memorial, erected at TanYBwlch. Sadly, my camera has failed to focus on the details, although most of the names are legible in the original image. On a future visit I intend to take a close-up for that infoemation.

There are two dedications, the original - for the Great War - was carved into the column, and the second - a bronze plaque - is for WW2 and subsequent conflicts. I pay my respects whenever we pass this way.

The large war memorial in Rickerby Park, Carlisle. "Lest we forget ..." It is sturdily fenced off as the park grass is often "mown" by cattle.
