This is an example of a wooden body buck, built by skilled joiners, the complex structure is needed to support the shaping of body panels. The coach-builder - another skilled worker - would "beat" the aluminium body work to shape over the buck. This process would deliver a luxury, hand-built car, in this case a Bristol 411, which were produced between 1969 and 1976. [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_411 ] The eponymous Bristol Car Co. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Cars was based in Filton. Nr Bristol, between 1945 & 2011. It didn't make a huge number of the luxury models.
