Not at all easy to get an image of this little two-seat "scout" helicopter. Developed in the late 1940s and entered service in 1956 in the Air Observation Post role for the army. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saunders-Roe_Skeeter

Westland "Sea King" [HAS.6] XV712 ... I recall these in the bright yellow / high visibility livery worn in for their RAF Air-Sea Rescue role - often co-operating with the RNLI, HM Coastguard and also volunteer Mountain Rescue teams. Their career with UK forces [RAF & RN] spanned 1969 to 2018. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Sea_King

TiG[air] - wait for me ! {1 0f 2}

21 Apr 2025 2 56
Usually, our peace is disturbed by a pair of Chinooks, on training exercises to a nearby specialist facility. The sound is very distinctive, I don't really need to look to confirm what I can hear - and frequently the landscape & trees obscure my line of sight. This time, there was a third "egg-beater / wokkah " tagging along ...

TiG[air] - Chinook pair {1 of 2}

The first of two Chinooks that flew over my house [13:38 ish BST] - quite low and we definitely heard them coming ... Training exercise at a nearby facility which has been going on for several days and probably the same two were visiting Carlisle Airport - to refuel ? - some time earlier. There's also been a couple of Apache types buzzing about.

The second of two Chinooks that flew over my house [13:38 ish BST] - quite low and we definitely heard them coming ... I tried to get them in the same frame, but failed. Training exercise at a nearby facility which has been going on for several days and probably the same two were visiting Carlisle Airport - to refuel ? - some time earlier. There's also been a couple of Apache types buzzing about.

TiG [air] - helicopter

This low-flying helicopter just popped out from behind the row of trees, the weather is steadily getting worse as the cloud base drops down and the wind / rain increase. As often happens, I could hear him well before I saw him, but not sure who / what he is nor where he's going ...

RAF "Puma" [SA 330] helo passing by ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A9rospatiale_SA_330_Puma I see these beasties quite often, as there is a training area just North West of where I live ...

TiG (air) - where ?

10 Jun 2021 136
Playing "spot the 'chopper" in overcast conditions, with cloud low enough to be classed as a fog. From the sound, almost certainly the local air ambulance, following the A69 / railway down in the Tyne Valley..

TiG (air) - helo approaching

10 Jun 2021 134
Noisy things flying past here are usually Hercules C-130sjets, or the air ambulance, so it was pleasant to see one of these for a change. [it is one of the RAF's SA330 "Puma" fleet]

TiG (air) - helo

Close fly-past of an RAF Puma, probably on a training exercise. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%A9rospatiale_SA_330_Puma#United_Kingdom

TiG - sad sight

16 Feb 2017 214
Shortly after I saw the Police helo carrying out a search pattern, one of the local officers asked me to help him by searching my land and outbuildings for a missing person, a vulnerable man. I found nothing, the officer came back later to tell me that he had been found, unfortunately, he was already deceased. It has been a very cold night.

TiG - chinnok

Twin egg-beater flying northwards. Chinooks have such a distinctive sound, almost didn't need to see it ! Probably going to practice avoiding radar ...

Helo gunship passing overhead ... noisy thing compared to the SAR kit we often see.

A visiting helicopter landing at NEAM, a lucky alignment gives a strange new aircraft.
