Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0DM "Mighty Atom" - built at Leeds during 1943, exhaust spark arresting used a water trap. Worked at Springfields munition works, which later became BNFL. Became surplus to requirements in early 1990s, saved from the scrapman and restored by a group of BNFL workers. Named "Mighty Atom" on the 50th anniversary of her delivery to Springfield, on 10Dec1993. Came to Southport two years later. In disgrace ! having run a "hot box" [again] Renishaw has come "on shed" ... "Renishaw Ironworks No.6" [0-6-0ST] was built in 1919 at Leeds by Hudswell Clarke with their works no 1366. The Aln Valley Railway has become the new home for ‘Renishaw' after the completion of a 10-year overhaul at the Tanfield Railway in 2023. [The sale and relocation was agreed in just one week] The Drewry diesel "Drax" is in the background.

0-6-0T Works No. 1243, Richboro, was built in 1917 by Hudswell, Clarke and Company in Leeds. She had a UK-wide career, from Kent, to Shropshire and Wrexham until 1969 - Initially preserved and restored at Llangollen and finally came to Lionheart in 2012 and is now owned by the AVR.

Princess Elizabeth in 21" gauge. Rescued from scrap and under cosmetic restoration by the Midland Railway Trust volunteers. Built in 1938 as their D612 by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds. Engine - which is elsewhere at present - is a 29hp twin cylinder, water-cooled, Dorman diesel.

Princess Margaret Rose in 21" gauge. Rescued from scrap and restored by the Midland Railway Trust volunteers. Built in 1938 as their D611 by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds. Engine is a 32 hp twin cylinder, water-cooled, Dorman diesel. It does run, but requires someone strong to twirl the starting handle - and it kicks back !

The builder's plate on the South Tynedale Railway's No.18 aka "Old Rusty" which is an 0-6-0DM ... Hudswell Clarke of Leeds built it in 1961, works no DM1247.

L -> R ... Marchlyn : 0-4-0T built 1933 by Avonside [Bristol] wksno : 2067 Started life at Burnhope Reservoir, Durham. Sold to Penrhyn Slate Quarries [N.Wales] in 1936, worked until 1965 and then, with 5 other PQR engines, Marchlyn was sold to an American collector. Repatriated in 2011 and restored to operational use Cegin : 0-4-0WT built 1931 by Andrew Barclay [Kilmarrnock] Also started life at Burnhope - named "Red", and followed to PQR, becoming Cegin. Sold to the same collector {C.B.Arnette of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and travelling to Puerto Rico. Returned to the UK - all six ex-PQR locos have - and came Statfold in 2016. GP39 : 0-6-0WT built 1930 by Hudswell Clarke [Leeds] Started life working for Surrey County Council on the construction of the A31 Guildford bypass. In 1934, sold to PQR, becoming "Bronllwyd" until 1949, from then, she stood on the infamous scrap line until sold to the late Alan Bloom in 1966, becoming part of the Bressingham fleet for the next 40years. Had a couple of years at the Lynton & Barnstable and came to Statfold in 2010, initially ran here as Bronllwyd but then restored to her identity as GP39.
