The open gateway into Peterborough Cathedral Close. [Somewhat spoilt by the trappings of modern life]

A nicely rebuilt gate-end or wall-head. Note the use of very large stones to keep the structure stable. Also note that the wall is not capped by coping stones, as it is still being used as a clearance or consumption wall, ie one built of stones cleared from the enclosed fields. The gateway and the track / footpath I am standing on are covered in cobbles - medium sized stones - used to reinforce the surface in wet weather, especially as this is a well-walked route.

The "heritage farm" is currently closed to visitors, however - I'm visiting the "workshops" ...

The sad remains of the gateway arch over the East Gate to the bailey. There are just a few of the shaped stones left in situ.
