BtC - on the down train {2 of 2}

22 Jun 2025 2 2 83
We have been staying at OrangeHaven [Whitehaven, Cumbria] for a few days. Today, we had a lovely meal, outside in the sun, at the Wasdale Head Inn. On the way back, detoured past L'aal Ratty, only to find Perkins - the small, yellow diesel at work on a passenger train. So we took a ride, with Bella, on the last train of the day down to Ravenglass. Then we went to St Bees for ice-creams. Bella started off very happy & interested in the train ride, but was a touch discombobulated by the sounds of the airbrake and Perkins' air horn. But by the time we arrived at the terminus, she seemed to be herself again.

RER[25] - Perkins at work [HTT]

21 Jun 2025 3 1 88
Indeed a rare sight - Perkins hauling the last service of the day, as it arrives at Dalegarth. I think that this is the first time I've seen Perkins out on the main line, running service trains, other than at a gala. Perkins is substituting for River Irt, who had failed [broken down] earlier in the day. The necessary repairs appeared to have been completed by the time the down train returned to Ravenglass, as R. Irt was back in the Engine Shed as we went past. HTT[24thJune2025] - the wider platform at Dalegarth, and additional nearby areas, are well supplied with tables & seats. {and shade, dog bowls etc}
