STR[25] - two sports cars [HWW]

13 Jul 2025 3 2 37
Tucked behind the signal cabin were these two green sports cars ... [L] MWL 909 : a 1947 built 1250cc MGTC [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_T-type ] [R] FIB 4192 : a 1972 built 2500cc "Teal Tourer" [Bugatti Type replica ?] If itv is, then probably worth a LOT of money !

O&S[B+T] - strong mortar [Explored]

21 Jun 2025 7 3 62
A small piece of [probably] demolition rubble found on the beach in the Outer Harbour at Whitehaven. The remains of three house-bricks, held together very firmly by the mortar.

HWH[25] - Hexham water tower [HWW]

04 Jun 2025 4 2 53
This water tower, or more specifically, the iron panels making up the actual tank, has deteriorated significantly [hence being fenced off]. This is a tremendous shame, as the size of the tank indicates the relative importance of Hexham as the railway station for an important & busy rural market town with an extensive hinterland, which extended to the Allendale Branch and the Border Counties line areas. The tank in almost double the size of the one in Haltwhistle, 2x4x7 [56] compared to 1x5x7 [35] panels ...

WTB - Grape Lane

18 May 2025 10 8 98
The last building on Grape Lane was built in 1688, and is now a museum to Captain Cook. Note; how thin the bricks are, under the layer of paint, when compared to modern construction standards. The ground floor has external shutters, those windows on the upper floors would have had the internal versions.

WTB[25] - red hot pokers [HWW]

18 May 2025 6 8 97
A bunch of red hot pokers outside the facilities for berth holders at Whitby "Marina" / harbour pontoon moorings. Not clear from tis viewpoint, but the marina facilities building was designed to give the impression of an upturned hull, hence the curved in the shape of the upper section wall.

WTB[25] - view out the back

18 May 2025 1 37
Looking out from our overnight accommodation. The gutter needs a good clean, there's a lot of vegetation growing in it ! Note: the traditional Yorkshire "pantiles" and the very shallow height of the individual bricks - indicating significant age. During the refurbishment, some walls have had to be rendered / painted to keep out the weather. The window and rooflight seem to be modern fittings.

SBB[24]/coast{2/8} - Borth Railway Station

Passed through this station many times, but the first time I've seen it from this angle !

Some images - scratched graffiti on brickwork - in Ranby Road, Coventry. These appear to be WW1 era Biplanes, but may be slightly later, from between the wars. I was sent these by email, but attempting to contact that address has been a fruitless exercise. [Many years ago, I used to live a few doors away from these ...] . . Not my Image : fair use & public information

O&S - old ghost sign

24 Mar 2013 3 2 443
"Private Vehicles Prohibited" - I take it that staff cars had to be parked elsewhere..........painted over sign on a wall in what is now a small industrial estate.
