SBB[25] - boat at Boulmer

06 Sep 2025 1 107
Last thing before going home was to visit a beach for Bella to have a good, off-lead "Tazzzzzz" ... As we parked up I noticed these two fetching their boat out of the North Sea, by the time I had got the camera on them, they had succeeded. It was a tad breezy, and colder than it looks, so after Bella had mucked about a bit we decided to head home. We thought about stopping off somewhere, but we decided that coffee at home would be best ... just as well, as it began raining just about out local pub !

WTB - frothy, man

The strong north-easterly breeze has cooked up quite a swell outside Whitby ... no wonder the trip boats are doing 20 minute "river" trips instead of out into the bay. It was still quite rough between the piers, although it settled down once you got further into the harbour. Looking out from West Cliff / top of the Khyber Pass, which is much steeper lower down.

Lighthouse on Roker Pier, taken just about sunset. . Completed in 1903, built in alternating layers of red & white Aberdeen granite, to a design by Henry Hay Wake. Still operating. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roker#Roker_Pier_Lighthouse

rsf[24] - old lighthouse {1 of 2}

The old lighthouse on the high ground above Roker Beach [near Sunderland]. Glowing somewhat in the sunlight, it looks like it has had a recent repaint. . Built in 1856 to a design by Thomas Meik and sited on the Old South Pier at the mouth of the R. Wear. It was moved here in 1983. . That green grass was quite sodden, due to all the recent rain.

Built in 1856 to a design by Thomas Meik and sited on the Old South Pier at the mouth of the R. Wear. Now disused, it was moved here in 1983. . Groyne at Overstrand, just east of Cromer. [sorry about the slight tilt, the path was rather steep !]

shs - soaking wet

Typical Ben showing his credentials as a Lab - soaking wet, almost certainly hungry but also very happy as he has been chasing his stick. . [reposted as a reminder of summer]

shs - a pause ...

A somewhat soggy Ben hoping that I will lob his stick again. I will, Ben, I will, you just need a breather while I take this picture ...

shs - The Farnes

Looking out to Inner Farne, the rest are further out. Just a little further to the right, one of the trip boats is heading back to Seahouses. Gentle waves lapping the sand on the beach (didn't realise that Ben had snuck into the frame !) and some very warm sun. Quite a break from normal.

The beach, looking towards the northern edge of Seahouses, plenty of peaople but well socially distanced.

shs - shaking off some seawater

After several swims, chasing the big stick, Ben has decided a good shake is in order. My shot missed the rainbow he produced.

Ben dashing out to where the stick has landed, the water is almost deep enough for proper swimming. He was really enjoying this ...
