That's actually a sizable lump of wood washed up by the receding tide. Next to the ugly modern slipway into the Outer Harbour at Whitehaven. Pleased to see sand accumulating rather than piles of seaweed tangled up with plastic rubbish and dead bycatch, as present on recent visits. Bella inspected the log on her arrival on the beach !

The pollution - mostly plastics - left behind by humans. "Take only pictures, leave only footprints" is a good plan. Not My Image. Fair Use, Education & Comment.

Found on the Outer Harbour beach (Whitehaven). Commonly known as a Mermaid's Purse, this is a chondrichthyes. It was empty, but probably from Skate or another ray - not a dogfish, as those are smaller as well as much longer than they are wider. £1 coin for scale. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_case_(Chondrichthyes)

Wide open spaces and plenty of beach to run along. Good weather as well. Building Dunstanburgh Caste, the ruin on the headland must have been quite an undertaking.

And a few pebbles held back by the groynes ...
