Developed from the Centurion MBT, The Chieftain MBT was in service with UK forces [& widely exported] 1960s - 1990s. Went through a large number of "Marks" and specialised variants, such as bridge-layers. Replaced by the Challenger I; but some remained in UK service until 1996.

HWH[25] - Hexham water tower [HWW]

This water tower, or more specifically, the iron panels making up the actual tank, has deteriorated significantly [hence being fenced off]. This is a tremendous shame, as the size of the tank indicates the relative importance of Hexham as the railway station for an important & busy rural market town with an extensive hinterland, which extended to the Allendale Branch and the Border Counties line areas. The tank in almost double the size of the one in Haltwhistle, 2x4x7 [56] compared to 1x5x7 [35] panels ...

Actually, I think a version of this first appeared when the invading russians attempted to cross the Siverskyi Donets River near Bilohorivka [on10th May 2022 - the defenders destroyed an entire Battalion Tactical Group's worth of Tanks etc]

O&S(meme) - terminology is the key
| 27 Jul 2023 |
|
I suspect this is "pixels" as someone - probably from one of the "mounted" regiments in the BAOR - has got more than a little fed up of the references to "Thomas the Tank" as the shorthand for Thomas the Tank Engine". Made me smile, as I also prefer the correct / full terminology whenever possible. However, the source locomotive isn't "Thomas" but something quite different.

The label from a freshly purchased habitat - however, it will have a pair of gerbils, instead.

The large water tower at Keighley.
[looks like a cast iron sectional tank - I'm guessing it is about 80 cubic yards capacity - but it may be a GRP replica, but that is still a lot of water ...]

btm - tortoise
| 06 Jul 2016 |
|
The Tank, Heavy Assault, Tortoise (A39) was a British heavy assault tank design developed in World War II but never put into mass production. It was developed for the task of clearing heavily fortified areas and as a result favoured armour protection over mobility.
Although heavy, at 78 tons, and not readily transportable, it was considered reliable and a good gun platform.
Only a few prototypes of the Tortoise had been produced by the end of the war.
