Fowler 4160001 is a 0-4-0DM shunter, built in 1952 at Leeds. Powered by a McLaren diesel, she is the prototype for her class. “Persil” worked at the soap works of Joseph Crosfield & Sons at Warrington until 1971, when she was donated to Steamport, arriving in 1972 as the first exhibit, before the museum was actually open. . ribblesteam.org.uk/exhibits/diesel/fowler-4160001-1952-persil

Shirley - B.R. Class 11 0-6-0 DE shunter, built at Derby in 1951 [TOPS 12088] (carries ‘Shirley’ in memory of the wife of the late AVR stalwart Gordon Hall - who bought it for the AVR in 2012) 20 years working for BR, mainly in the Midlands until 1971. Transferred to Johnsons and used at serval north eastern NCB sites. Came to Lionheart in 2012. It has recently undergone a long-overdue heavy overhaul, the installation of vacuum brakes and been repainted into BR Black, with full "wasp" cab end. Seen here substituting on the passenger service for Renishaw - which had run a hot box on the previous train.

2ft gauge Type DH-25 [wksno 9332] was built by Hunslet in 1994, to a design by Jenbach. It has a Kubota diesel as the prime mover and weighs slightly under 3 tonnes. Originally supplied to a Singapore-based plant hire concern, but then had a somewhat peripatetic and world spanning career before returning to the UK in 2013. She can be used as the works shunter here, and there are similar examples at Woodhorn Mining Museum, Northumberland and in Wales.
