21 Jul 2025 7
Galeon Andalucia has reached her berth at the far end of the floating harbour. She's attending Bristol's Harbour Festival and will be open for visiting until the 27th of July. Not my image : fair use & public information

gaw[25] - Galeon Andalucia arriving in Bristol

21 Jul 2025 7
Galeon Andalucia has passed under Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge over the River Avon, on her way into Cumberland Basin & her berth at the far end of the floating harbour. She's attending Bristol's Harbour Festival and will be open for visiting until the 27th of July. Not my image : fair use & public information

gaw[25] - off to bristle

21 Jul 2025 7
About to re-position the fore-course yard, the main yard is down already ... [sorry "Bristol", bristle is a nickname often used by Bristolians] not my image : fair use & public information

gaw[25] - crossing the bar

21 Jul 2025 9
About to cross the outer harbour bar and get out into the Irish Sea itself. Next stop - Bristol, for their maritime festival. not my image : fair use & public information

gaw[25] - out the lock

21 Jul 2025 9
Under way and out of the sea lock at Whitehaven. I suspect her lower yards are positioned like that to avoid the lock control building. not my image : fair use & public information

gaw[25] - composite image

21 Jul 2025 9
Composite image showing a ship exiting Whitehaven in the days of sail [some level of artistic licence has been employed !] and the afternoon departure of the Galeon Andalucia. She does rather fill the sea lock ! . not my image : fair use & public information

19711180 GA having windage problem 3to4am 16july20…

21 Jul 2025 9
A drone produced this image of the Galeon Andalucia having windage problems when attempting to leave Whitehaven, at silly o'clock in the morning ie high tide. Between 03:00 and 04:00 16th July 2025. I believe that no yachts were harmed during this period, although I believe some new words were learnt. I wonder how easily that would have been handled in the good ol' days of warping ships out of the harbour ? not my image : fair use & public information

haw[25] - Brixham trawler

A colourful Brixham trawler in full sail, maybe at sunset ?

rvc[8-22] - St Mary's

St Mary's Lighthouse stands out by reflecting the sunlight. On a northwards passage is what looks like a rig support vessel.

While eating our snack and looking out of the cafe, we saw this bulk carrier heading northwards.

TiG - nightmare

09 Nov 2011 433
Seen at Beamish - I know this is just an artist's impression, but I don't know which is worse, the whole idea of moving an ocean-going vessel by rail, or the weird locomotives (they look a little like the Double Fairlie type, but there seems to be far too many wheels)

TiG (water) - sailing by moonlight

31 Jan 2021 21 5 275
An unknown tall ship silhouetted against a full moon. [possibly aided by photoshop] She has her bows and stern directly in line, but I think, from counting the yards, that she is square-rigged on at least two masts, the fore and main, If she has a mizzen, it may have a spanker. not my image : fair use & educational purposes.

TiG - water - shipshape & Bristol Fashion.

A demonstration of how not to enter the R.Avon from the Cumberland Basin / Floating Harbour. Difficult to tell, but I think there is a steam tug on the far side of the square-rigged vessel. No doubt they are waiting for the incoming tide to bring enough water depth to sort out the situation, as the ship's bows look firmly embedded in the mud, exposed at low tide. Not my image : Fair Use - discussing ships aground in awkward places.
