seating - to watch a short video about V-bombers - underneath the stern of a Vulcan. the plane behind is a Victor, with the nose of the Valiant further away. The British strategic nuclear force [V-bombers] were the Avro Vulcan, Handley Page Victor and Vickers Valiant. Initially at high altitude, then in the 1960s at low altitude - for which only the Vulcan was used, the Victors were converted for air to air re-fuelling, only retiring in 1993, and the Valiant retired in 1965. In 1970 the nuclear role was handed over to the Royal Navy in the form of Polaris carrying submarines.

A zoomed in view of XJ825, the Avro Vulcan displayed at Solway Aviation Museum. (XL319 is at NESAM, in Sunderland) I thought that maybe XH558's crew used this as a very visible turning point on their farewell flight.

Zoomed in and rather grainy snap of XH558 passing Carlisle Airport on 10th October 2015. Only decided to try and watch the farewell tour at very short notice, so didn't have the best camera available. As noisy as I remember them ...

Here she comes. XH558 approaching her turning point at Carlisle Airport on the Farewell Tour (Northern). Chosen viewpoint was not that close to the route and without the best camera I was more interested in watching the Vulcan so images not high quality.

Stobartair's fire tender at Carlisle airport doing another quick circuit of the perimeter track - probably checking that the spectators are safe, there may have been some fence climbing going on. For something that was not well publicised to outsiders, there were lots of people at various vantage points. The waiting crowds are hoping to see XH558 on her farewell flight (northern sector) on the10th October 2015. This was one small group.
