WTB[25] - staircase

18 May 2025 1 90
A very elegant curved staircase, just over 90degrees in 17 steps. The top few a rather narrow and squeak as you climb them. I think the recent dry weather has made the timber in some joints shrink a bit. First attempt to take this was spoilt by the crowd in the bookshop, so I went back and got a clear view. SBB[24]/CyB{14/16} - entrance steps

05 Sep 2024 147
The first of three sets of steps / bridges that combine into the entrance for Castell y Bere. Definitely would have been difficult obstacles for an attacking army. However, the wooden sections are in need of repairs / replacement. Wet Wales and passing time have combined to reduce some pieces of the timber to fragments - nothing overtly dangerous, and some repairs have been already been done. However, I hate open riser stairs like these !

As the caption. However, some people have said that as good as this design is, there are a few faults. Not my image : fair use & comment / educational purposes

CAS - Dun - QH stairs

Impressive carving on the wall panelling in the stairwell at the Queen's Hotel, Dundee. There is another, more distant image of the open version of this design, mounted as the bannister side of the stairs. Nice to be able to see the timber grain, there was some evidence of repairs and previous coats of paint.

Looking up at the staircases in the tower of the Southerness (ex-)lighthouse. A rare chance to climb up and see the view from the lantern room.
