Emperor dragonfly [Anax imperator] laying eggs on what I think is Potamogeton gramineus [various-leaved pondweed] in a large pond in Norfolk. I had been trying [and failing] to capture images of either the very territorial male dragonfly or the female flying above the pond. Finally, I managed this image and cropped it "in camera".

Freshly arrived [28th May 2022] and as yet un-named ... also, she is very young, exceptionally shy and therefore difficult to photograph. E2A - Sadly, her personality turned aggressive, despite all the gentle handling / habituation and stimulation such as time in an exercise ball that was offered. She bit people without warning and became impossible to handle without risk. She had a stroke and was PTS at the beginning of March 2023.
