The ROC badge and crest show a 16th-century Beacon Lighter holding aloft a flaming torch while shading his eyes with his free hand, as though looking towards a distant object, or place. The company crest / coat of arms on the side of a Compagnie Internationale de Wagon-Lits et de Grands Express Europeens sleeping car, built 1933. I'm debating whether this metalwork is brass or, more probably, has been gilded [gold leaf].
