Trying handheld and it was a bit breezy. In so close, the red & orange can be quite overwhelming

Queen's Dock is still this bright orange ...
There's "a bit of a dispute" about what it is, where it's coming from and who is going to pay to clean it up.
[IMO - it is Ferric oxide ie rust from old mine workings, probably coal. The water is draining into Corkickle Tunnel and then Bransty Beck before entering the Harbour / Marina. tbh, I think that the Environment Agency should sort it out asap - a reed bed system, but where ? - and claim some of the costs back from the Coal Authority, Network Rail etc. when the final costs are known, Previously, it would appear that the ballast in Corkikcle Tunnel was acting as a filter, so maybe the quickest solution would be for Network Rail to relay the track in the tunnel with clean / recycled ballast]

The team at Peter Beales Roses have bred this rose variety especially to celebrate the RNLI 200th anniversary.
"With Courage" is a deep coppery-orange compact floribunda rose variety, flowering in June/July and again in Sept/October.

At one plant for each life saved since 1824, we would need 146,000 plants !
PB are donating 20% of the proceeds form each one sold to the RNLI
whn - brown marina

The water in the Queen's Dock has turned an unpleasant shade of murky orange / brown. This first happened sometime in late November 2022. The depth of colour varies according to how much rain and sea water has diluted the supply from Bransty Beck.
Various investigations have taken place since then as to the materials present and potential sources, no doubt there will be prolonged arguments as to who pays to clean it up ...
.
However, when I first saw images, my immediate reaction was that this pollution was because water draining from local mine-workings was contaminated with Ferric Oxide [aka RUST] or related compounds.
I have seen similar colours, and probably from this cause in the Bridgewater Canal.
.
Currently, it is suspected that the contaminated water is entering Bransty Beck via drainage ducts in Corkickle tunnel.
.
The only minor advantage is that it is acting as a potent antifouling solution, and seems to be removing the "tube worm" that infests the marina.
