This is St. Cuthbert's Church, Elsdon. Much of the 14th century church remains, although it was much modified in the 19th century. After the depredations of various raiders, it was rebuilt with a stone roof. It is reputed to be one of the places where the monks carrying Cuthbert's remains rested during their peripatetic wanderings between Lindisfarne and Durham.

Looking across a small part of the village green to the church, the old school is to the left.

Under a tree on the village green, outside the "Bird in Bush" we found these tables, sadly it wasn't warm enough to eat outside, but we found that the pub was dog-friendly, so had our lunch inside. Note: the oak on the background, apart from the circular bench, the stone pillar has a commemorative plaque - see other images for detail.
