Orangs

Where I learnt English as second language, these are oranges. And our teacher always said "an Orange" -- not "a". The voweld a, e, i, o & u should preceed with "an" Acturally these are called Citrus where I live at present Which fruits are citrus? There are many different types of citrus fruits, but some of the most common include oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, mandarins, tangerines, pomelos, and kumquats.

Cultural Outfit

www.tomedes.com/translator-hub/24-cultural-traditions-around-world What is culture? Culture is the combination of a particular society or people’s ideas, beliefs, cultural customs examples, arts, and social behaviors. It is the essence of that society – something that is deeply ingrained and that is unique to that particular population. What’s a tradition? A tradition is also deeply ingrained. It relates to a specific activity, event, or behavior that has been repeated over and again from generation to generation. Interestingly, a tradition differs from a custom. The difference between customs and traditions is that the former refers to collective behavior that has not been taking place long enough to become a tradition (though it could well become one if a sufficient number of people repeat it for a long enough duration of time). Our different traditions are an intrinsic part of our different cultures. These unique cultures often serve to help define our sense of who we are and where we belong. This is the case regardless of whether or not we practice the tradition in question – it is still a part of our cultural heritage and engaging in it (or not) says something about both who we are and who we aspire to be.

Story Telling

16 Dec 2021 5 1 102
Man is a story-telling animal -- we remember stories better than facts, and often misremember facts to fit a favored story. The vagaries of our memories have been extensively catalogued: we attend more to facts that conform to our expectations and prejudices, recall them selectively and imperfectly, and, when forced to acknowledge inconvenient facts we strive to interpret them in a way that fits our preconceptions. ~ Page 16

Peace lies over All the peaks. In all the trees You sense Hardly a breath; The little forest birds fall silent Wait, and soon You too will rest. ~ Gothe

Culture & illusion

29 Dec 2018 1 225
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BCller-Lyer_illusion . . . . Casual cultural studies revealed something surprising: perception of the illusion varies widely -- and Westerners are outliers. When scientists measured how different the segments appeared to different groups of people, they found that Westerners saw the greatest distortion. The Zulu, Fang, and Ijaw people of Africa observed half as much. The San foragers of the Kalahari didn't perceive the illusion at all: they recognized right away that a and be were the same length. People raised in Western countries literally don't see things the same way as the foragers of the Kalahari. Your experience of the world changes what you take to be true, and vision is no exception. ~ Page 125

Books

That place that does contain My books, the best companions, is to me A glorious court, where hourly I converse With the old sages and philosophers; And sometimes, for variety, I confer With kings and emperors, and weigh their counsels; Calling their victories, if unjustly got, Unto a strict account, and, in my fancy, Deface their ill-placed statues. ~Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher
