According to English Heritage Rufford is "The best-preserved remains of a Cistercian abbey west cloister range in England, dating mainly from around 1170. Incorporated into part of a 17th century and later mansion, set in Rufford Country Park". The sun is out but these benches in the country park await the warmer weather! HBM to everyone. HWW Bramcote Nottinghamshire 18th March 2025

My wife's mother worked in the Post Office in the small Nottinghamshire village of Bramcote in the late 1920s-early 1930s. We recently found a reference to the "Old Post Office" online so decided to take a look. Surprisingly the Old Post Office still had its old Post Office sign! It is now a private residence and Bramcote is no longer a small village being virtually connected to the city of Nottingham. HWW to everyone. Have a great day.

Clumber Park is a country park in The Dukeries near Worksop. The estate, which was the seat of the Pelham-Clintons, Dukes of Newcastle, was purchased by the National Trust in 1946. I have to confess that this fence is pretty low key! Nevertheless HFF to everyone, Have a great weekend.

The original Cistercian Rufford Abbey was founded by Gilbert de Gant in 1147. After Henry VIII's Dissolution of the monasteries the estate was granted to George Talbot, 4th Earl of Shrewsbury, partly demolished and converted to a country house between 1560 and 1590. The abbey and 150 acres of grounds were bought by Nottinghamshire County Council in 1952. In 1956 the late 17th century north and east wings were demolished and the remains opened to the public by the Council. HWW to everyone. Enjoy the day.

This weekend marks the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the MSLR/Great Central Railway extension from Annesley to London Marylebone. To mark the occasion both GCR North & South participated in a weekend Gala. The two halves were linked by a heritage bus service and I took it from Quorn to Ruddington. This is the northern terminus now with two platform roads and a central siding. Class 20 diesel D8154 sits in the new platform line only completed the day before! An HST or more fittingly for this celebration an Intercity125 is on the left with a Class 08 Jocko in the centre. The platform bench is from the late-lamented Nottingham Victoria station. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the start of the new week.

British Railways Standard 2 2-6-0 78018 passing through Rushcliffe Halt on the northern section of the GCR with the 12.30 Santa Special. 78018 has just come off the single track section from Ruddington and is passing the disused Hotchley Hill signal box. These days we use smokeless fuel so no more dramatic skies and less pollution! HFF & have a great weekend.

A visit to Newstead Abbey north of Nottingham the former home of Lord Byron. The priory of St. Mary of Newstead, a house of Augustinian Canons, was founded by King Henry II of England about the year 1170. It was converted to a domestic home in 1540 following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. HFF to everyone and have a great weekend.
