The Ribeira area along the Douro River, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seen from the upper level of the Ponte Dom Luís 1 which carries the new D Line light railway inaugurated in September 2005, and opened to metro trams and pedestrian traffic. HBM to everyone. The funicular railway down into the Douro River valley gave a great view of the Ponte Dom Luís 1 & the port warehouses in Vila Nova de Gaia on the south bank. From the images on Google Earth the line appears to be disused today. The Ponte de Dom Luís I is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the River Douro between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Built in 1886, its 172 metres (564 ft) span was then the longest of its type in the world. HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend.

We took the broad gauge "historic train" of 5 wooden-bodied coaches from Regua. It was headed by CP Class 1400 Bo-Bo English Electric/ SRFM diesel-electric CP 1424. A small band played local folk music on the train and on the platform here in Tua. HBM to everyone.

Dating from 1886 the Dom Luís I Bridge is a double-deck metal arch bridge that spans the River Douro between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Line D trams of the Metro run over the upper bridge while the lower carries road traffic. This view was taken from the Vila Nova de Gaia riverside which is famous for its port wine cellars. Now part of a tourist display these sailing boats were once used to transport the wine from the Douro Valley to Vila Nova de Gaia for storage and export. HFF & a great weekend to everyone.
