Beginning on September 16, 1810, the people of Mexico fought a long war of independence from Spain, finally achieving victory with the entrance of the Army of the Three Guarantees led by Augustín de Iturbide to Mexico City on September 27, 1821. Spain under the rule of Isabella II finally recognized the independence of Mexico in 1836. Torre de Rectoría

Last year at this time I was visiting Mexico City. My friend Boris de Swan asked me on the final day of my stay where I would like to go. The UNAM (National University), I answered. I wished to see the spectacular wall murals created by David Alfaro Siqueiros at this famous university. One month ago Boris died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home. With this photo I pay tribute to him. His wit and talent as a photographer inspired me and I shall always remember him fondly. This photo was taken with a Kiev 60 medium format film camera with a Carl Zeiss Jena DDR Flektogon 4/50 lens using Kodak Portra 160 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

As seen from the Obelisco a los Niños Heroes y al Honor Militar, the Castillo de Chapultepec overlooks a forested urban park within Mexico City. Besides being a green zone for "metropolitan relief", it is an historic area full of museums and historic monuments. Holy Nopal

The noble Nopal Cactus (Prickly Pear) is native to Mexico and is part of the legend and culture of that country dating back millennia. Both the leaf and fruit are edible although the plant, as you can see, has a significant defense system! This photo was taken with a KИEB-60 medium format film camera and an ARAX (ARSAT) 2.8/80 lens with orange filter and 20mm extension tube, using Kodak T-MAX 400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
