Western Wood Lily

30 Jun 2011 218
This beautiful Western Wood Lily was growing at Bow Valley Provincial Park on Monday 27th June, when friends very kindly invited me to join them for a wonderful, leisurely day in this amazing area. We didn't see all that many of these gorgeous wildflowers, and hopefully it was just a case of them blooming a little late this year. This species is becoming Increasingly rare due to picking the flowers: the flower stalk contains the leaves which are needed to produce the food for the next year's plant. So, please, leave these beautiful flowers right where you find them growing.
