Sunlit footprints

I just liked the way the sun was lighting the snow and these tracks the other day, east of Bebo Grove in Fish Creek Park. Looks like someone cross-country skied. I wonder what the other, smaller, fainter track is that crosses diagonally. Any suggestions?
Playing Santa

Several of you commented on my previous photo of this Pileated Woodpecker that it looked rather like Santa, with red cap and white beard, so I used this for my title : ). When you look at this image, picture me standing quite a few feet away with snow that came well over my knees, LOL! Only -18C with windchill, though, unlike other recent days. I love the way this bird's feathers are fringed with white.
Sunshine stripes

Just a very simple shot, but I liked the way the bridge railings were leaving a shadow on the snow. Seen east from Bebo Grove, Fish Creek Park two days ago.
Pileated Woodpecker

I'll say the same, Ron - this one's for you :) :). It was fun bumping into you for the very first time down in the park this afternoon! I guess we both had the same idea and we were lucky to be successful. Of course, YOU managed to see two of these huge Woodpeckers and even got a photo of both together.
Star of wonder

A little late for Christmas, but still OK for "winter", LOL. I didn't have a tree this Christmas - I now use an artificial one and it stays decorated all year long, down in my basement! It's always awkward to bring upstairs and take back down and I didn't want to risk it with a finger still in a splint. So, out into nature it is, to do a bit of decorating - off the beaten path a little way, so that I wouldn't get any funny looks from all the walkers and joggers who were out enjoying the park today, LOL.
Icy trio

These icicles were hanging from the railings of a bridge in Fish Creek Park, just east of Bebo Grove. Around four more months of this and it will be spring! Meanwhile - I like icicles : )
Saturated footsteps

I don't usually alter the saturation levels of any photo, but for some reason I did this time. I accidentally moved the level too far, but then decided to leave it like that, just for fun and for some added colour to an otherwise white image.
Giving me a look

One of five or six beautiful Mule Deer that were feeding on a snow-covered hillside east from Bebo Grove, in Fish Creek Park, on 23rd December. A lovely early Christmas gift for me : ) They had such healthy, thick winter coats.
Berries on today's menu

Today, after three days of avoiding going out in the -27 to -29C temperatures (wind chill temperature around -40C), I braved the cold and went for a much-needed walk. It had soared to a balmy -12C (wind chill -18C) and the sun came out occasionally. Really a beautiful day today, other than being rather chilly. I started walking east from Bebo Grove in Fish Creek Park and soon came across this huge Pileated Woodpecker pecking away at a tree trunk. After a while, it suddenly flew at me, just a few inches above my head, and landed in this bush, where it ate a few berries for a snack. I don't remember ever seeing a Pileated eating berries before, so it was interesting to watch as it very awkwardly swung upside down, right way up, half lying down ....
In the clutches of winter

It has been far too cold for any snow to melt, but I did find a couple of tiny icicles hanging from the railings of a bridge overlooking Fish Creek this afternoon. After three days of avoiding going out in the -27 to -29C temperatures (wind chill temperature around -40C), I braved the cold and went for a much-needed walk. It had soared to a balmy -12C (wind chill -18C) and the sun came out occasionally. Really a beautiful day today, other than being rather chilly.
