Moosie and His Stick

If there's one thing that Moosie loves, it's a stick to chew on. While I was taking pictures of Zoe and Molly the other day, I looked to see where Moosey was, and found him with a most content look on his face, chomping away on a new prize! Silly boy! :)

Zoe is so darn cute. She loves Steve, but I am her Sun and Moon. Wherever I go, Zoe is close behind me. We do have a lot in common, I admit. Energetic, silly, goofy, sweet (I've been told! :D), affectionate, and full of fun and mischief. I was taking pictures of the dogs when she trotted by and I called her name. She stopped, turned her head and looked up at me...*click*! :D (Texture by Jerry Jones: PaperBox )

This adorable Shitzu had been trotting along with his mom when he saw me and trotted up behind me. Such a friendly little fellow, he rolled over so I could itch his belly, and when his owner walked up, she told me in surprise that he doesn't like strangers much and has never done this before! She looked at me with a special expression and smiled while she told me his name. She was happy to let me take his picture and as I went on my way, she had to hold him back to keep him from trotting along with me on my adventure! :D

Shadow is a Poodle-Chesepeake Bay Retriever mix and she is one very cool, mellow dog. Here she is, frolicking in the snow. She was wonderful to hike with and I hope to get the chance to do that in the future! :D

Today Steve and I went to our first photoshoot! (not paid, we went for experience and practice!) We went to Celebrity Pets, which is a dog groomer with many services, including self-service washing stations! We had a wonderful time and learned so much!
My pick of the day was this gorgeous Bichon Frise, who was there for a bath, trim and manicure. Steve got some very funny images of it getting blow-dried, but I saw this beautiful face and knew I had to fill the frame! What a stunning dog! :)

About a month ago, Zoe took her favorite tennis ball on our walk, but at one point she dropped it at the edge of our frozen pond, where it rolled out onto the ice. Oh, that was a very sad panda!! I kept an eye on the ball, and yesterday I finally found it bobbing at the edge of the pond. I called Zoe over and when she saw her ball, she got very excited and cautiously scooped it up. Suddenly, all was right with the world again!! We went up to the house and I got my camera and spent the next 10 minutes tossing it for her to chase and fetch while I clicked away! I had such fun taking these pictures, I kept looking to see if I got anything good and couldn't stop laughing! This set of pictures is my very best pet portraiture to date in my opinion because I think I've totally nailed Zoe's personality!
Moosie, Our Beautiful Basset Hound
| 28 Aug 2012 |

|
This is one of our three dogs, and the first dog I've ever owned! Moosie is about 4 years old now and we got him from a woman who breeds national champion dogs. In fact, Moosie would have been her next show dog and supposedly is the absolute perfect Basset in every way! Except for one thing. Moosie has a blue eye, and that disqualifies him as a show dog, but that also meant we got to take him home!
Basset Hounds are scent hounds and were originally bred in France to hunt rabbits and hares. Only Bloodhounds have a better sense of smell. These dogs are extremely low to the ground ("Bas" in French, means "low"), and this short height comes from a form of dwarfism. They are extremely sweet, gentle, friendly dogs and make ideal family pets. Unfortunately, they are also prone to skin problems due to their many folds of loose skin, they have leg and hip problems due to the dwarfism, and they have a number of other ailments as well.

This is our extremely silly Boxer, Zoe, with Moosie using her rump for a pillow! She is the most hyperactive dog I've ever met, but the's also incredibly affectionate and sweet, and is a total clown. She loves to play and would be happy if she could run at full speed all day long!
Steve was at the nearby hardware store a few years ago when he called to tell me there was a litter of Boxer puppies there and we simply must have one, so he brought me back to see them and the smallest puppy was who I fell in love with. Zoe is still a bit small but she only recently stopped growing! We don't know anything about her parents except that they are purebred, and we were happy they only cropped her tail and left her ears alone!
The Boxer was bred in Germany in the late 1800's as a military dog, where it was used for guarding, attacking, delivering messages, and as a pack dog. Today, it's known as a wonderful companion, family and guard dog, and is often seen in agility, obedience and flyball events.
Happy Hound: Can I Run And Play?!
| 17 Nov 2011 |

While the beautiful black dog was bounding around and having fun, this lovely golden dog was on leash and straining to be free to run. Eventually, (s)he met the black dog and they got along without incident, so both of them were free to run and play. I love the expression here. so interested and intelligent!

Two of the photographers brought their dogs, and this is one of them! This happy girl was celebrating her second time on an adventure without a leash, and she had a grand time bounding through the snow and following everyone around. Such a happy girl! :)

Zoe, our Boxer, took her tennis ball on our walk yesterday but she dropped it at the edge of the pond and it rolled out onto the ice. You should have seen Zoe's face! Her expression said it all: "Bummer." (Happily, she has lots of other balls, so not all is lost!)
