Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: BEACH PARTY (August 11 - August 17, 2025) This is a party on the beach in Lynn ,Massachusetts in 1922. My husband’s father, Ron, is in the pram and Ron’s mother, Agnes, is fussing with him. They are very recent immigrants from England. This looks like a neighborhood birthday party that the new family has been invited to.

Gathered around the table - here's what would have been on it (like many English birthday tables) in addition to the birthday cake: Jelly (jello) Little triangle sandwiches - cheese and tomato sauce (ketchup) marmite (yummmm - no Am. equiv) and meat paste (no known American equivalent) Pastry Cheese straws Cheese Boats (little rolls with a sail made out of a triangle of processed cheese on a toothpick Tizer (um, orange soda is probably the closest) Ribena (no equiv) Anybody English think of anything else? Me looking like an elf with a barrette (slide) above my ear, behind me is Patrick, then Nicholas, Gill, Ruth (looking apprehensive) and Janet and Rosemary in the foreground.

Classic English party clothes - dresses with petticoats, hair ribbons and a few angora boleros. I'm wearing a broderie anglais dress with a red velvet ribbon threaded through the collar that I absolutely loved - made for me by a family friend. Brought forward for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of "There's one in every crowd." "The one" here being my Dad - a not uncommon occurrence. The Lundbechs, the Browns, the Coxs, the Laceys, Charlie Whiting, (was this taken by Eve Whiting?), the Halls and some others. About 1962. A little bit of Rayleigh, Essex, history.
