The large building at the end of the alley housed the biology department of Leiden University, but now it is empty awaiting demolition.

The Baker's Alley is now a big thoroughfare called Pelikaanstraat (Pelican Street). The thoroughfare was created in the 1960s to make way for the cars. Now the cars are unwanted and city council of Leiden is trying to prevent people from driving into the city.
